Jumbo Bag, also known as FIBC bag, is a large type of packaging bag used for storing and transporting a variety of products in forms like granules, powders, or pieces. These are typically made from woven polypropylene (PP) fabric and are designed variably according to the contained products.
They are known by several other names like FIBC bags, Bulk Bag, Big Bag, Hong Kong Bag, Container Bag, and also as 1-ton Bag, 500 kg Bag, 2-ton Bag. Their loading capacity usually ranges from 500 kg to 2,000 kg. They are transported and handled using pallets or lifting loops.
History of Jumbo Bag:
Originally, Jumbo Bags or FIBCs, as we know them today, were made from rubber PVC and primarily used in the rubber industry for transporting Carbon Black, a key reinforcing agent in various rubber products. With the development of polypropylene (PP) plastics in the 1960s and advancements in the textile industry, the modern Jumbo Bag was born and quickly became widely used by various oil and chemical companies for storing and transporting powder and granular products.
During the oil crisis of the 1970s, Jumbo Bags (FIBCs) played a crucial role in transporting massive amounts of cement from Europe to the Middle East, aiding in the rapid expansion of oil-producing countries. At the peak of their development, over 50,000 cubic meters of cement were shipped each week to support numerous large-scale construction projects.
Modern Jumbo Bags now transport up to a quarter of a billion tons of products annually, and this number continues to grow each year. They are used for the storage and transportation of a diverse range of products, from cereals to chemical powders, and even flour used in animal feed. With a storage capacity of up to 3 cubic meters and a load capacity ranging from half a ton to two tons, Jumbo Bags are highly cost-effective, easily recyclable, and an ideal choice for any kind of bulk products such as grains, powders, pellets, and pieces.
Classification of Jumbo Bags:
There are several kinds of Jumbo Bag. Here are some examples of types of Jumbo Bag:
- Top spout Jumbo Bag: Features a circular spout at the top, ideal for products that can be loaded through a pipe like powder, bran.
- Jumbo Bag with top open 3 sides: Has a flap cover, one edge sewn to the bag mouth, and can be closed after filling. Each side of the flap should extend 10 cm beyond the bag mouth for stitching after filling.
- Jumbo Bag with a full open top: Features a wide top, with a mouth diameter of about 60-100cm, suitable for large blocks, less dusty powder products like agricultural produce, ore, sand, pellets.
- Jumbo Bag with discharge bottom: Enables automatic discharge, ideal for granular and powdered products like plastic granules, chemicals, lime, cement, flour, rice, bran, cassava starch, coffee, pepper.
- Jumbo Bag with a closed bottom: Has a solid bottom, requiring inversion of the bag for discharge or cutting open, suitable for heavy items or light items with thin fabric.
- Anti-bulging Used Jumbo Bag: Equipped with four inner partitions (polypropylene fabric pieces with holes) to maintain a square shape, ideal for highly fluid products. Also meets size requirements for containers.
- Circular Jumbo Bag: The body is a circular fabric sheet, sewn with the top and bottom of the bag, the shape of the top and bottom determines the body’s shape.
- Jumbo Bag with four lifting loops: Equipped with four lifting loops sewn at the four corners of the bag mouth for easy movement by cranes/forklifts.
Jumbo Bags are widely applied in packaging goods and raw materials in industries such as agriculture, rice, flour, coffee, pepper, livestock feed, minerals, cement, coal powder, lime, chemicals, sawdust.
